Today's Summary

Today started with unfortunate news from our construction site. The drainage nali (drain) broke, causing waste water to rapidly enter the excavated foundation pits. Despite my prior advice to the owner to avoid excessive excavation near the nali, this precaution was ignored, leading to the incident. On-site, we resolved the issue by installing a pipe through the nali to prevent further water flow into the foundation. This experience provided several important lessons.

Professional Tips

  • Avoid Excavation Near Drainage Lines: Excavating too close to drainage lines can lead to structural damage and water ingress issues. Always maintain a safe distance to prevent accidents and ensure the stability of both the drainage system and the excavation site.
  • Always Have a Working Pump on Site for Dewatering: Keeping a dewatering pump on site is essential to manage unexpected water ingress. This ensures that work can continue without significant delays and helps maintain site safety.
  • Avoid Excavation Near Others' Foundations: Excavating near existing foundations can compromise their structural integrity and lead to disputes or accidents. Always respect boundaries and ensure that any excavation work does not adversely affect neighboring structures.
