Plan to Start the Next Stage of Construction
Daily Professional Diary - October 23, 2024
Early Morning:
I kept my phone on silent, which turned out to be a mistake as I missed three calls from my site. Thankfully, the calls were not for an urgent site visit but rather for a meeting at the office later in the evening regarding the slow speed of work due to the contractor.
Evening Meeting:
After 6 PM, I met with the client at the office to discuss the issue. I advised the client that since I am appointed as the site engineer primarily for site visits, they need to ensure that they are present at the site to monitor whether the workers are following my guidelines. I also called the contractor to join the meeting. I suggested to the contractor that my role is to guide on technical factors on site, and as a contractor, they need to follow the guidelines provided by the owner and me.
Additionally, I emphasized that at each upcoming construction stage, the contractor should inform me and the owner about how they plan to start the next stage, confirm that they have the required materials of the mentioned quality, ensure sufficient manpower is at the site, suggest any relevant points related to the work, and maintain the work speed as decided.
Professional Tips:
1. Always Keep Your Phone Accessible: Avoid putting your phone on silent, especially during work hours, to ensure you do not miss important calls from your site or clients.
2. Client Engagement: Clearly communicate the scope of your role and the client's responsibilities. If you are appointed for site visits, ensure the client understands the need for their presence on site to supervise daily activities.
3. Effective Contractor Communication: Regularly involve contractors in meetings with clients to align on expectations, guidelines, and project timelines. Make sure the contractor updates you and the client on the readiness for each construction stage, including materials, manpower, and any potential issues.
4. Monitoring Work Progress: Establish a protocol where contractors report on their progress and upcoming plans. This ensures that everyone is on the same page and that work is progressing as planned.
