Suggest Quick Actions for Structure Strength
Professional Daily Diary - 27 October 2024
Today, I visited the Buddh Vihar site, where work is currently at the plinth level. I brought along measurement and color elevation prints that the client hadn’t received yet due to their tight schedule. This way, I could hand over everything they needed during the site visit itself.
At the site, the client asked me to mark the center point for the dome. To do this, we tied a line to one of the columns, which only had rebar and hadn’t been concreted yet. We carefully aligned the line across the planned area, checking it meter-by-meter and confirming it was square by measuring the diagonal distances. Once we were sure, I marked the center of the dome with paint on the surface.
I also gave the following suggestions to the client for the next steps:
- Get the RCC Design Done: The dome is a major structure, so getting the RCC design done early will ensure the construction goes smoothly and safely.
- Concrete the Exposed Steel Quickly: I advised them to fill the exposed steel in the columns with concrete soon to prevent any rusting.
- Use Proper Lapping: Following the IS code for steel lapping is essential for a strong, long-lasting structure.
- Add Hooks in Stirrups: Proper hooks in the column stirrups improve bonding and make the structure more stable.
Meanwhile, two other clients called me regarding their home 2D plans. Since I wanted to give each of them my full attention, I decided to call them back in the evening. Later, I spoke with them and suggested they come to my office if possible. This way, we can work on the 2D plans together, which helps in making adjustments in real-time.
Professional Tips:
- Deliver Documents During Site Visits: Bringing necessary documents like measurement and elevation prints to a site visit can save time and meet client needs, especially when they are busy.
- Verify Center Points Carefully: Marking the center for structures like domes with line alignment and diagonal checks ensures accuracy and prevents future issues.
- Prioritize Concrete Work for Exposed Steel: Concreting exposed steel as soon as possible is essential for preventing rust and maintaining the strength of the structure.
- Schedule Calls for Full Attention: Returning client calls at a dedicated time ensures they receive full attention, especially for detailed discussions like 2D plans.
- Encourage In-Person Meetings for Drafting Plans: Working on plans with clients in person allows for real-time adjustments, leading to better results and clearer communication.
