What's my role at the site?
Daily Professional Diary - Saturday, October 19, 2024
Today was a relaxed Saturday. I provided a proposed building permission drawing to my client and sent payment reminders to other clients.
In the evening, my contractor called, worried about the site due to heavy rain. The foundation pits had filled with water. I told him to pump out the water and let the owner call me for any site visits or suggestions. This way, I can avoid any confusion or disputes about my role and payment.
Even before the layout at the site, the owner had already given the RCC and front elevation work to another engineer, despite the time I had dedicated to planning, contractor and owner contract discussions, and work-related meetings. The owner still hasn’t discussed my payment and role at the site, which is concerning.
Professional Tips
- Clear communication is essential. Regularly remind clients about payments and keep communication clear to avoid misunderstandings.
- For site issues, direct contractors to handle immediate problems and ensure the site owner contacts you for further decisions to avoid confusion about responsibilities.
- Make sure your role and payment are clearly agreed upon with the owner to prevent any disputes.
- Always document all communications with clients and contractors to help resolve any future disagreements.
